Subic Bay

Subic Bay is a coastal town and port located to the north of Manila and to the west of Angeles. You can get here directly from Manila at either Pasay or Cubao bus terminals depending on where you stay in Manila, it will take you about 3hrs from Manila depending on what terminal you leave from and of course the traffic, you can also get a sea plane here directly from Manila or if you are in Angeles it’s only about 1hr away by bus from Dau terminal. Subic Bay itself is a freeport zone and a lot of trade enters and leaves the port on a daily basis. There’s also some heavy industry in the bay which provides jobs and employment in the local area. The bay itself is quite large and scenic as several mountains spill down into the bay and the sunsets in the evening can be spectacular as the sun dips behind the mountains and spills into the sea.

There are quite a lot of local style resort accommodation all along the bay that range from 2 star right up too 5 star options, whilst there are quite a few decent restaurants located in the area as well. Subic Bay is a very popular weekend get-away spot for people and groups from Manila so sometimes it can get crowded, especially in the summer months.

The girl scene here is not very big as there’s only really Barrio Baretto that has a strip of girly bars along the highway, you can’t miss them at night due to the bright neon lights and loud music as well as the girls standing outside trying to drag you in by shouting ‘Hey Joe!’. Most of the girly bars here seem to be extension of some bars in Angeles, and apparently a lot of the girls rotate between Subic Bay and Angeles if they want to get away from Angeles and stay at the beach. This place can be comparable to Sabang in Puerto Galera, Mindoro, however there’s not as many activities to do in the daytime and the beaches aren’t as nice, however it’s still a very beautiful area and a great quick escape from Angeles.

There is a healthy ex-pat resident population in Subic Bay with the majority being ex US Military servicemen who have retired in the local area but seem to have some small business in the freeport trade. There’s not a massive Korean or Japanese contingency here and that means that Subic is one of the few spots in the Philippines where the girls all seem to be ok with non Korean or Japanese men, so happy hunting if you’re not Asian in Subic, and even if you are i’m sure you’ll have no issues!

Key pointers

If you are staying in Angeles for a while it is probably good for your health to use Subic Bay as your respite location for a couple of days. Angeles is the best pound for pound and the most girls per square inch in the Philippines in terms of pure girly bar action, however after 3 or 4 days it all seems to blur into one giant vortex and even the most seasoned veteran has to ‘pull out’ and take a breather i.e. Subic Bay is the most convenient location for you to do that and it still has a decent girly bar scene!

Summer months here can be a lot more fun if you are looking to party as the clubs in Olangapo are full of single Filipinas from Manila and so are the beaches, bars and restaurants in the day time.

Stay at one of the resorts near Barrio Baretto and you can pretty much walk everywhere i.e. no need for trikes.

Getting to Barrio Baretto from the Olangapo mall (this is where the bus will drop you off from Dau) is quick and easy as there are plenty of vans waiting for passengers to jump off the bus.

Subic Bay Girls

There are about 12 girly bars in Barrio Barretto and a couple of more local ones in Olangapo and to the north along the highway from Barrio Barretto, however we don’t suggest you bother with anywhere except Barrio Barretto as it is set up for foreigners and is much more safe and located nearer all the nice Bar girl friendly hotels and resorts.

The absolute best part about Subic Bay is the prices i.e. Beers are about P90, Lady Drinks P150-P240 and barfines are only P2,000! This price is fully inclusive of everything and it would be uncommon if the girl didn’t stay with you the whole night and next morning, unless of course she really didn’t like you that much. You may want to tip her P500 the next morning if she does a great job, or if you feel like it.

You may be thinking P2,000 these girls must be the Angeles rejects… However you would be wrong in thinking that as a lot of these girls are here from Angeles for a break by the seaside so they see it as a paid vacation, in loose terms. Also a lot of the girls here actually come from the surrounding region and you’ll find the typical story from all over the Philippines that they got pregnant and had a baby to a local Filipino, he ran off and now they are working at the bar and sending the money home to their mother or aunty who is looking after the child. This is pretty much the most common story outside of them being enterprising university students.

The girls in Subic Bay will also love it if you stay at one of the nicer resorts i.e. more chance they will also want to stay with you the next day or even the next night for another barfine. We’ve had some good nights out in Subic Bay as the atmosphere is fun and the girls are up for a party but also relaxing times on the beach or at your resort etc.

Girly Bars in Subic Bay

Barrio Barretto is the only area you really need to bother with as the rest will be well below these standards in our experience. As previously stated the atmosphere in Subic Bay girl bars is a lot less pushy and as a result the girls seem a lot more relaxed and happy to be there and party with you, or help you relax and unwind etc. Plus the prices help a lot as you can really cut loose in Subic and wake up the next morning with a bunch of cash STILL left in your wallet!

Our favourite bar in Subic Bay is called ‘The Office’, it’s pretty modern inside and seems to have the best looking girls most nights. Again most of the bars here seem more set up for the Western tourists which makes sense as Subic Bay is full of US Military personnel and retirees, so if you’re American you will probably love it here more than most.

Again as with anywhere it’s probably best to head out on your first night around 6pm when the bars open and pop your head into all the bars to check out the vibe and see if there’s a stunner who you should just call quits on early and barfine. As with the ‘Kim-swarm’ in most girly bar areas in the Philippines Subic is not immune to an ‘Hey Joe swarm’ as most of the retirees here will hit the bars at 6pm when they open for happy hour and also to snag their favourite girl for the night, so get in early if you want the pick of the litter!

Freelancing Girls in Subic bay

WeChat and Tinder have limited success here, except during the summer months when this is your best bet outside of the clubs in Olangapo. Seriously if you want freelancers your best bet is the clubs in Olangapo where there can be well over 100 girls to choose from when they are busy.

Night Clubs in Subic Bay

Nocturnal Disco and Club V are located in Olangapo, there’s no clubs in Barrio Barretto so don’t bother looking.

Nocturnal Disco is similar to High Society in Angeles although not as big and don’t expect all the girls here to be freelancers as about half or even more are ‘normal’ girls here on holiday from Manila. This can be a great place to party in the summer time when lots of large groups come to Subic Bay from Manila, just like the beach discos in White Beach, Mindoro you can score some freebie girls here if your chat game is on point and you dress well, also as the girls are on holidays they will tend to drink each other under the table so wait until after midnight and the ‘groups’ tend to breakup as many lose themselves on the dance floor.

Club V is not far down the road, you can’t miss it. This club is smaller than Nocturnal Disco and don’t expect too many freelancers in here as it’s more suitable to bring a girl, or your girlfriend etc.

Cover charge at both is usually about 100 Pesos including one standard drink. Local beers are less than 100 Pesos, cocktails and spirits are about 150 Pesos and whiskey bottle prices start at about 3,000 Pesos. Freelancers at both clubs will go for around P2,000, as always price depending on how much she likes you and how well you treat her and her friends.

“Normal” Nightlife Spots in Subic Bay

Johansson’s and Sit ‘n’ Bull are the best bet away from the other bars, they also have pretty decent western style food and you can meet a lot of the ex pats who live around the area here. If you want to watch live sports then go to Sit ‘n’ Bull, whilst Johansson’s has a pool table.

Sit-n-Bull and Johansson’s. These are actually the two best restaurants in town, too. Sit-n-Bull has a nice bar (see the picture above) and TVs with live sports, and Johansson’s also has a great and spacious bar that’s good to meet other people as well as a pool table and darts.

Blue Rock Resort has a nice open air bar on the beach as well as a floating bar that gets packed with the local ex pats on the weekends. This is a bargirl friendly establishment and most days there are guys at the open air bar or the floating bar with their girls so you wont feel out of place at all. Food is decent here around P350 for a main meal and the drinks reasonable about P80 for a beer.

At the hotel, rooms are equipped with a desk. All rooms have a private bathroom with a bidet. At Subic Bay View Diamond Hotel, the rooms are fitted with air conditioning and a TV.

The accommodation offers a à la carte or American breakfast.

Massage parlours in Subic Bay

Guys there’s only one legitimate place to go here and it’s ok but not as good as the parlours in Manila or Cebu. Serenity Nuru Spa provides a ‘nuru’ massage with ‘nuru’ gel for P2,500 including all the bells and whistles. This is located in Barrio Barretto where all the other massage parlours are, however don’t expect much luck for a happy ending massage unless you meet the right girl at the right time.

Ladyboys action in Subic Bay

Count Nikolas is the only ladyboy bar in Barrio Baretto, however the quality doesn’t appear to be that great so if this is what you are looking for we recommend you stick to Manila, Cebu, Boracay or White Beach in Mindoro.

Again WeChat and Tinder will undoubtedly be a happier hunting ground here than the bar scene.
